The Splendor of Christmas

In Luke’s account of the birth of Christ, we read, “And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David, a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”
On the first “Christmas” an angel appears to shepherds and they were filled with great fear, but to calm them the angel says, “Fear not! A child has been born!” That is certainly an interesting way to distill fear, especially for a shepherd, who are usually unfearful people!

But not just any baby, “a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.”

The shepherds knew the stories and the promises. Those words would have been the most comforting words for those shepherds. The promised Messiah and Savior had come!

R.C. Sproul said on the matter, “The angel declares that this Savior-Messiah-Lord is born ‘unto you.' The divine announcement is not an oracle of judgment but the declaration of a gift. The newborn king is for us.”

How freeing and peaceful to read those words and find our eternal confidence and peace. Christ the Lord has been born and a Savior has been given!  Just as we celebrate a victor in the world around us (sports, games, contests, etc), we celebrate the victory Christ demonstrated over our sin. Our Lord has conquered death.

On this Christmas of 2017, let us lovingly remember ... While we were dead in our sin, a Savior came. On calvary's hill, He paid the price. Out of sin, He bought us and provided a way to glory.

From all of us at Otyokwah,
Merry Christmas

Christians and Thankfulness

Christian, we have much reason to be thankful - certainly enough that we could fill the remainder of our days with praises and thanks, a daunting task indeed. Yet that is exactly the instruction Paul gives to Christians in his first letter to the Church of Thessalonica, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (5:16-18).
